In our 4-week email course, we explore the topic of self through the lens of hats. While we are in theory one person, we often act as many.
We all wear so many different hats.
We are employees, family members, partners, parents, sons/daughters/siblings, animal lovers, caregivers, friends, passionate individuals, changemakers, explorers… you name it.
In times of COVID & quarantines, heck even in normal times, with technology abound, it is easy to forget how often we switch between these hats all day long.
Does any of this sound familiar?
While working on a big work deadline or in a work meeting, a friend or family member texts needing something…. time to switch hats.
While trying to focus on work, your child interrupts you (happens to me ALL THE TIME)… time to switch hats.
While doing some mundane tasks or work, our mind drifts to a far off land or dreams of a better way… .time to switch hats.
Another notification, ping, ding, email…. time to switch hats.
Arg, its tiring just writing that!
Be Gentle.
It’s easy to forget how often we are forced to switch hats all day long. It is way more draining than we even realize. (Science is clear we as humans are horrible multi-taskers…)
But the reminder is to be gentle with ourselves. Remember, you are wearing lots of hats and it is ok to give yourself some grace.
Try on an old hat.
Maybe, it’s time to put on the old “just me” hat and wear it for a couple of days… No pressure, no obligations, just being yourself.
Kinda feels nice…
Grateful to have you here.
